It is no surprise that at the work place a lot of flirting is going on. You are around people who share the commonality of working in the same place, you’re away from your partner and at times get bored or stressed out.

You must be careful when it comes to flirting in the workplace however because ultimately, it can end your career. In extreme cases you can get in trouble for sexual harassment when all you were trying to do is harmlessly get your flirt on. There are rules when it comes to mixing flirting with work so be sure to follow these simple rules. First, never flirt with your boss! Under that note, never flirt with anyone you work under. It is simply just unprofessional. Flirt with people you trust and with people who flirt back to you. This way, you know the feeling is mutual and it is an unspoken understanding. If someone has asked you nicely to stop flirting with them, then do so. You will get into trouble if you continue on. Be sure not to flirt with college interns. Although they may be cute, stick to flirting with people your own age. Lastly, don’t flirt if someone is trying to work. They will get frustrated with you!

Making the First Move

You may be waiting for the hint that someone is totally digging on you and you are waiting the first move. Perhaps instead of waiting for something that may never happen, you should make the first move.

The first move is a very important one so consider these few points before you move in. Before you make the move, try to figure out and make sure that the individual is single. Check to see if they have a ring. Obviously stay away if they do! If you are interested in someone that your friends know, ask them about that individual. Ask them if that person is dating anyone and if not, you are in the clear. If it is the person at the local coffee shop see if they notice you when you walk in or if they hint that they are interested in you. Try giving off nonverbal signals such as smiling at them, and watch for a reaction. If they are hinting they are not interested then move along. It is almost like you are playing a game of detective and once you know you are in the clear then you are allowed to make the first move.

This is more like a do and don’t type of thing, but you should know that a lot of dating, successful dating, depends on the things that you say, the things that you talk about and essentially how you talk about them.  If you want to send a new date running then tell them right away about that foot fungus you have and how your ex still stops by every night for a booty call.  If you want to keep someone around for awhile, then you could be a little more selective about the information that you wish to divulge right away.

That is not to say, be deceptive, it means be a little classy and thoughtful about the things they should know and the things they really don’t have to know on a first date.  If for instance, you have an STD, then you should tell them before you even meet for the first time.  That is one of those things that just should not be kept from someone.  If you have allergies to ragweed, that’s not something they need to know right away.  Just be thoughtful about the information that you share and keep it on a friendly and fun note for the first few dates.

Fighting the Impulse to Run

If you get nervous on dates then it might be understandable if you have the impulse to run out of there at the first sign of sweaty palms.  You should try to fight this initial impulse and try to make it through the date.  If you continue to run out, you are severely limiting yourself to the opportunities that are available through dating.

This would be a matter of trying to overcome your fear of a social situation like dating.  The only way to make it through is to keep telling yourself that you are fine and then try to make it through the date.  Even if you are nervous, you can try to hold a conversation.  A good conversation might take your mind off of everything that is making you so nervous about the date.

Ask yourself what it is that makes you so nervous.  Is it talking to your date or do you feel like they are judging you?  Regardless of the issues, it is your sole responsibility to try to get it under control.  Running away half way through dinner is not the ideal plan and you should really try to avoid it at all costs.

If you end up being too nervous, then simply tell your date what is going on.  They may be very understanding and might even be having the same thoughts and feelings.  If that is the case, then both of you can run out together and find something more entertaining to do together.
